During her lifetime, Ayn Rand taught fiction and non-fiction writing to a select group of individuals. Her insightful series of lectures on principles, strategies, and tactics for successful writing were published in two books that belong on your bookshelf if you’re a writer or seek to be one: The Art of Fiction and The Art of Nonfiction.

Rand, the author of the novels Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, We the Living, and Anthem, also wrote and published scores of mind-opening essays, speeches, articles, and letters collected in a series of books that gave her an even wider worldwide audience.

Among her non-fiction books are For the New Intellectual, The Virtue of Selfishness, Introduction to Objectivist Epistemology, The Romantic Manifesto, and Philosophy: Who Needs It?

Allow me to give you a brief taste of Rand’s insights on writing. But I urge you to obtain copies of her books. Hopefully, they’ll help you in your writing journey.

In this issue of Write for Your Life, we begin today with her nonfiction teachings. A good portion of the book also has excellent advice on writing in general.

We will cover her The Art of Fiction in our next issue, two weeks from today.
